Dubai’s government schools follow the Ministry of Education curriculum and primarily serve Emirati families. For expatriate families, private schools in Dubai are effectively the whole market.
That single fact explains the scale of the sector — around two hundred schools, more than a dozen curricula, and fees spanning an enormous range.
Who Regulates It, and What That Gives You
Inspection
The Knowledge and Human Development Authority regulates the sector, and its inspection bureau assesses schools against a six-point scale: Outstanding, Very Good, Good, Acceptable, Weak and Very Weak.
Reports are published in full. Parents comparing options often begin by searching for very good schools in dubai and filtering by band — a reasonable first pass, though the overall grade compresses phase-level detail, and newly opened schools carry no rating until roughly their third year of operation.
Fees

The Curriculum Map
The British curriculum is the largest single group, running through IGCSE and A-Level. The IB, American and Indian curricula follow, each with established pathways to their own university destinations.
Choose the endpoint before the campus. Moving between curricula is possible, but between Years 10 and 13 it requires Ministry of Education approval and often means covering ground the new syllabus assumes.
One practical detail catches new arrivals out: private schools in Dubai do not share an academic calendar. British, IB and American schools run from late August to June or July, while Indian curriculum schools typically run April to March.
The Admissions Cycle
Applications generally open a year ahead. Popular year groups fill months before term, and a non-refundable registration fee — commonly around AED 500 — is standard at application.
Assessment varies by age across private schools in Dubai: observation or interaction in Early Years, written assessment or CAT4 from the upper primary years, and school reports at every stage.
Enrolment is completed through the regulator’s system, so a valid residence visa and Emirates ID are required before a place becomes final.
